Learn to Build a Real Web App, Start to Finish

Most computer science programs teach you to write functions and pass exams. Very few teach you to build, test, and deploy real software.

At the University of Austin, we are building a different kind of engineering education — one where students understand every layer of the stack, embrace modern tools like AI coding agents, and graduate ready to build from day one.

We've made our complete 5-part Modern Web App course available to anyone who wants to learn what it actually takes to build production software. This is the same course our undergraduates take, taught by Andy Aymeloglu, who brings over two decades of industry experience from companies like Palantir and Hexagon.

This course walks you through building a complete web app in five parts. By the end, you'll have built something real and understand how every piece fits together. Here's what you'll learn:

  • Part 1: How to Store Your Data. Every app needs a place to keep its information. You'll learn how databases work, how to put data in, and how to get it back out.
  • Part 2: How to Connect It to the Internet. You'll build a server that lets people interact with your app from anywhere, using the same simple rules that power every website you've ever visited.
  • Part 3: How to Make Sure It Works. You'll learn how to write automated tests that catch bugs before your users do, a skill most courses skip and every employer wishes you had.
  • Part 4: How to Build What People See. You'll create the interactive front end that runs in the browser, using React, the same framework behind most modern web apps.
  • Part 5: How to Put It Online. You'll deploy your app to the cloud so anyone in the world can use it, and understand what's actually happening when you do.

You can get free access to the same course UATX undergraduates use to become engineers who don't just write code — they ship it — by using the form below.
